Posting #1 from Ramblin' Pines campground, Woodbine, Maryland

Greetings to one and all from LynDen Haus, the traveling home for Lynette and Denny Metzer, formerly of Westminster, MD. Oh, I almost forgot, also the home of Obidiah Long-Beard, the traveling Lord of LynDen Haus (but more on that later). This is the first posting to Travels of LynDen Haus blog - the first of (hopefully) many more to come. I'm Denny (aka Dennis Metzer) and will most likely be the major contributor of postings to this blog. My intent is to informally record our travels and adventures in LynDen Haus, our 35-ft Winnebago Journey Express motorhome. We bought LynDen Haus new last year in anticipation of my upcoming retirement (for the second time) on 29 July this year. Once I'm fully retired, we plan on hitting the highways and by-ways of America, seeing and sightseeing whatever strikes our fancy. We’re counting on this being one great adventure in this chapter of our lives.

But first maybe a little info on myself and my partner in this adventure, Lynette.  I’m a former Air Force intelligence officer (32 years), retiring from active duty in May 2000.  I’m currently working (but only for a few more weeks) as a defense contractor in the Ft Meade, MD, area.  Lynette has been retired now since 2008, ever since we got married (for the second time…and more on that later) on the beaches at Kill Devil Hills, NC, in July 2009.  For most of our twice-married life together, Lynette was a full-charge bookkeeper and office manager for H&R Block…and almost always moving whenever and wherever the Air Force sent us.  Whether it was Germany, Alaska, California, Texas, or Maryland.  We managed to raise two sons, Kip and Jamie, who now are married with two kids each, and live in WV and MD, respectively.  I’m sure we’ll have more to say about both boys and their families as the LynDen Haus blog record our travels around the good old USA.  And we certainly are hoping our grandchildren – Skye (12), Rayne (9), Ben (7), and Luke (4) – will join us as often as they can during the summer months.

Well, I guess this is enough for the first posting to the LynDen Haus blog.  Oh, I almost forgot.  We are joined on this journey across America by a traveling companion, an 11-inch (precisely, 11 inches, according to Obidiah) tall gnome, Obidiah Long-Beard, or as we call him, Obi, for short.  Obi joined us at our current residence near Woodbine, MD, at Ramblin’ Pine campground.  This is home for right now until we “hit the open road” sometime in July.  We hope to have a photo of Obi Long-Beard for the blog real soon, but he's a wee bit camera shy so no telling when that might be.  Meanwhile, the second posting to this blog will be a short story of Obi’s background and how he got his full name, Obidiah Juan Long-Beard, the Traveling Gnome of LynDen Haus. The original story was written by our oldest granddaughter, Skye, with just some minor editing by this writer.  Thanks, Skye!  You did a really great job!

Much love and hugs to all – Cheers, Denny

P.S. Lynette says to look for photos to be posted soon.....
