Solar eclipse today. Thought the whole event might end up being a bust since we had T-storms this morning, and then cloudy skies stuck around right up to the time for the eclipse. Then, like magic, the skies all around us cleared up rather dramatically. Nothing but wispy clouds and loads of blue sky! Almost perfect for the eclipse. We had our eclipse glasses, so I knew we'd be able to watch this almost once-in-a-lifetime experience. What I wasn't sure about was photographing the whole event. Lynette used her cell phone's camera, but I opted for my Canon EOS Rebel with a circular polarizer filter to try and cut down on the glare and reflection. Not sure it worked out like I really wanted -- or anticipated -- but I ended up with some interesting pics. All in all, watching this solar eclipse was a pretty neat experience. And I think I gained some additional photo-taking expertise. Hope y'all enjoy the pics!
These first few were taken w/o the filter. Will indicate the ones with the filter.
Took this pic just as the eclipse was supposed to start; skies still pretty cloudy
Same with this one; we really started to worry that the clouds would obscure the eclipse.
Still cloudy, but the corona is clearly visible with the pink shading around the sun,
More "pinkish" corona...
Thought for sure the clouds were coming back.....
Thought this shot came out pretty neat.....
Not sure what I captured in this shot. A reflection of some sort.....
This shot and the next two show the other campers all out in their lawn chairs enjoying the solar eclipse. It was interesting to watch this scene turn dark during the total eclipse phase.
I have now added the polarizer filter to the canon; gives the shots a more defining look, I think.
These next few shots were taken during the minute and half (or so) of the total -- and near total -- eclipse that we witnessed here in the KC area.
